About the Governor's
Sportsmen Chili Cook-Off:

The 27th Annual Governor's Sportsmen Chili Cook-Off is a FREE, non-partisan event held in Richmond while the legislature is in session. The event has evolved over the years since it began in 1992.

This event is for anyone who roams the grounds of Capitol Square – legislators, staff, state officials, lobbyists, and friends – and features a variety of wild game, tame meat and vegetarian chili recipes from familiar faces around Virginia. It is a fun, no-politics zone that, for many, is the only time of the year they get to try wild game.

Recipes from recent years have included wild boar, bison, venison, kangaroo, bear, moose, dove, goose, pheasant, caribou and elk. A team of five expert judges select First, Second, and Third place winners as well as recipients of the "Spiciest" and "Most Hospitable Chef" awards. All attendees may vote for the "People's Choice Award."

The Chili Cook-Off has been featured in the Food Network Magazine, Style Weekly, Richmond Navigator and The Virginian-Pilot.
